Born on May 3, 1905 in Granville, Illinois, Red Ruffing (Charles Herbert Ruffing) played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 22 year career. Ruffing broke into the bigs on May 31, 1924 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 5.01 ERA in 217.1 innings pitched in 1925, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Red Ruffing's best season was 1932, when he posted a 3.09 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 190 batters.
