[edit] Biography

Born on October 4, 1918 in Houston, Texas, Red Munger (George David Munger) played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 10 year career. Munger broke into the bigs on May 1, 1943 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.95 ERA in 93.1 innings pitched in 1943, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Red Munger's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1947, when he posted a 3.37 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 123 batters. However, others believe that it was 1944, when he posted a 1.34 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 55 batters.
