Born on August 31, 1868 in Louisville, Kentucky, Red Ehret (Philip Sydney Ehret) played for the Kansas City Cowboys, Louisville Colonels, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Perfectos and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 11 year career. Ehret broke into the bigs on July 7, 1888 with the Kansas City Cowboys, and put up a 3.98 ERA in 52 innings pitched in 1888, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Red Ehret's best season was 1890, when he posted a 2.53 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 174 batters.
