Re: Report Paul Byrd bought HGH

Written Earlier: Now, in my mind there is no possible way this report is true. Paul Byrd is one of the nicest guys in the majors. He’s active in the community, he donates money, he is very religious, and he’s just the definition of class. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Byrd bought $24,000 in HGH between August 2002 and January 2005. During those years he pitched for the Royals, Braves, and Angels. Byrd is currently working on a book about his religious life and how it ties into his MLB career. What I think this is is a desperate attempt by the Chronicle for a big story. Now, if this turns out to be true I’ll look like an idiot, but I will stand by our pitcher. Byrd is 2-0 this postseason, and has helped the Tribe in a huge way this year.

Guess what...when you're winning, nobody cares. Guess what else...there is a double standard in the MLB. It's not black/white. It's pitchers/hitters.  There is a ton of statistical evidence that "proves" Paul Byrd used HGH (I'll get into that later). But, it's kind of messed up because we do not know how to correlate the effect steroids have on pitching statistics. Now, I have a better idea.

Most people correlate steroid use with home runs, and that's it. If you look at what pitcher's make their money off of, it isn't strikeouts, or e.r.a., it's innings pitched and wins. Innings pitched are a good indicator to how good a rotation could be. Whether or not they are putting too much stress on your bullpen, etc. Look at Barry Zito; he's good, but he recieved the biggest pitching contract in history based on his reliability (6 straight seasons of 200 IP). Paul Byrd had a year of 199 IP in 1999, his body couldn't handle it and he only pitched 83 innings the year after. The next 200 inning year for Byrd was 2002 where he threw 228 innings. He didn't even pitch the next year, but what do you do when your career is on the ropes? Well, if your Paul Byrd, you fire up the computer look at some porn, order some HGH, and come back in 2004. What happens when your wife catches you looking at porn? You tell her the nurses on the screen are this new fangled virtual doctor, and she tells you to find God. You find God, take HGH for 29 months, and help your team get to the World Series.

He spent $25,000 on HGH, and he bought it over the internet, with syringes.  When you combine the cost, the source, and the way he took it; it's obvious that he had to know what he was doing was wrong. It's not like the San Francisco Chronicle was out looking for Paul Byrd, either. He just got caught up in an investigation by law enforcement.

Oh, yeah...I forgot...do you really want to admit that you took steroids under "a doctor's supervision"? I can see Paul Byrd at the press conference now: "He said he was a doctor...who knew he just wanted to see my ass, as I injected myself with a syringe?"

When he took HGH, it was legal under baseball's rules.

HGH is not a steroid.

1. HGH could help mankind (if used properly) if you ask me...but, we are dealing with the court of public opinion...and if you took a poll most people would say HGH is a steroid - only because of performance enhancement...

During my days (months) in the minors, we knew what HGH did, and most of us couldn't afford it...it was readily available to players that the organization invested in...

2.)Also, if you wish to reply to an article (written by me), use "Mr. Laredo Slider" in the greetings section, Donkey...
