Born on April 23, 1906 in Nowata, Oklahoma, Ray Starr (Raymond Francis Starr) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Boston Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 7 year career. Starr broke into the bigs on September 11, 1932 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 2.67 ERA in 276.2 innings pitched in 1942, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ray Starr's best season was 1942, when he posted a 2.67 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 83 batters.

Starr was nicknamed "Iron Man" because he supposedly pitched more than 40 double-headers while in the minor leagues.
