Born on July 23, 1917 in Mount Gilead, North Carolina, Ray Scarborough (Ray Wilson Scarborough) played for the Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 10 year career. Scarborough broke into the bigs on June 26, 1942 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 4.12 ERA in 63.1 innings pitched in 1942, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ray Scarborough's best season was 1948, when he posted a 2.82 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 76 batters.
