Ray Poage (Raymond Coy Poage) was born on November 14, 1940 in Plainview, Texas. After going to high school at Happy (TX) and Lamar (Houston, TX), Poage attended the University of Texas. Poage made his professional debut in the NFL in 1963 with the Minnesota Vikings. He played for the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that 1965 was Ray Poage's best year, as he had 612 receiving yards and caught 5 TD passes.
