Born on December 11, 1903 in Dunlap, Tennessee, Ray Phelps (Raymond Clifford Phelps) played for the Brooklyn Robins, Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 5 year career. Phelps broke into the bigs on April 23, 1930 with the Brooklyn Robins, and put up a 4.11 ERA in 179.2 innings pitched in 1930, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ray Phelps's best season was 1930, when he posted a 4.11 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 64 batters.
