Born on December 15, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, Ray Herbert (Raymond Ernest Herbert) played for the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 14 year career. Herbert broke into the bigs on August 27, 1950 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 5.24 ERA in 87.2 innings pitched in 1953, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ray Herbert's best season was 1962, when he posted a 3.27 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 115 batters.
