Ray Bates (Raymond Bates) was born on February 8, 1890 in Paterson, New Jersey. He made his Major League debut on May 31, 1913 for the Cleveland Naps. In 1917, his rookie year, he hit .237 with 2 home runs and 66 RBI. Bates played for the Cleveland Naps and Philadelphia Athletics over the course of his 2 year career.
