Ray Allen Joins Paul Pierce In Boston; First Round Playoff Exit Awaits

"New Sonics' general manager Sam Presti pulled off a stunning set of moves during the early stages of Thursday night's NBA draft, sending Ray Allen and the 35th overall pick in Thursday's second round to Boston for Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and the No. 5 pick. Boston selected Georgetown forward Jeff Green for Seattle with the fifth pick."

That's from this NBA.com report.

Huh?

Why why why why why why why would Danny Ainge do this?

I realize that Allen is better than Wally, by a good amount. But does this make the Celtics a good team? Does it even make them a decent team? Yuck!

Last year, the Trail Blazers were awful. They didn't get the #1 pick, even though they had a good shot. But they stuck to rebuilding, grabbing Brandon Roy.

Next year, the Celtics are going to suck. Sorry. It's inevitable. But Ainge has some ideas that, maybe with Allen, the Celtics can make a run... at 8th.

Excellent trade for the Sonics -- they get to move in a new direction and build around Durant and Green. Very strange move for the Celtics. It seemed like they just rushed to get Pierce a vetern partner to play with in Allen, and they just jumped the gun. I was confused too.

It's an incredible deal for the Sonics. They not only get Green -- they get out from under the last year of Allen's contract (Wally's expires a year earlier).

haha, it's a good thing Allan Ray doesn't play, or else that could get quite confusing. Maybe Ainge's master plan is to draft Pierce Paul with the 35th pick...

What were the Celtics thinking? That team is no where close to winning now. Why trade a young stud for an old guy?

'cause he got game! Don't underestimate Ray Allen. He carried Seattle two years ago. Sure he'll be done soon, but how fast do shooters fade? Sorry, but he do got game....

Yeah, agree with most of you guys here. This was a bad trade for the Celtics. It's a good move in the short run, but in the long run, they should've kept Green. Allen is 32 right now, but it made Paul Pierce happy. So at least we kept a decent player, and we got someone with experience. The Celtics had no choice but to get someone that would get Paul Pierce to stay, and they did...

This is a TERRIBLE trade for the Celtics...they gave up way too much giving away the #5 pick, West, and Wally (I'm not even going to attempt to spell his last name). Way to go, Danny Ainge. For Seattle, they may have saved that franchise from moving to another city by completing this deal. Aging Ray Allen is on the down-side of his career, and Kevin Durant replaces him as the face of the franchise, not to mention they got Jeff Greene. Both Portland and Seattle made some really solid strides in rebuilding their teams for the future...I'm going to blog about this later today, stay tuned...
