So I'm sitting here in work study doing absolutely nothing, except for looking at my new fantasy basketball team. So I've decided to use these last hours here by doing a comprehensive review of my draft with 5 of my friends. We have a larger then normal format, with 12 stats. The stats are field goals attempted, field goals made, free throws attempted, free throws made, 3 pointers made, points, defensive rebounds, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and turnovers. We have 18 total players per team (2 PGs, 2 SGs, 2 Gs, 2 PFs, 2 SFs, 2 Fs, 2 Cs, 2 Utilities, and 2 Bench players). The commissioner of the league is Billy Ferris, and the participants are Joe Reynolds, Jared Dickson, Dan Anunziatta, Nick Clark, and Alex Audino (me). The idea of this is to give you my insight and explain my ideas on how to draft, and to try and start a discussion.
You will probably look at my picks, I admit it, some of them are definite reaches. I am plagued by the urge to pick my favorite players, which for some reason I do in baseball and basketball, but not football. I have had varying degrees of success in my leagues. My strategy is to pick the best players available the first few rounds, then go for well-rounded players (especially important in a league like this) rather then choose 1 or 2 stat guys, like Samuel Dalembert or Eric Snow.
-My choices are in bold
| 1. | Kevin Garnett - I lucked out with the first pick. Considered the Matrix, but couldn't pass on KG. | | | 2. | Kobe Bryant - Best scorer in the NBA, could have been first choice | | | 3. | Dirk Nowitzki - One of the best all-around players, good sheet-stuffer | | | 4. | LeBron James - King James has no help. Will he up his stats (scoring, boarding) or play down to team's level? |

|
| 5. | Shawn Marion - Despite trade talk, he may be fantasy mvp, especially in that offense. | | | 6. |
Steve Nash - Will carry you in assists and help you in steals and 3s.
|
|
| 1. | Dwyane Wade - Unhealthy, who knows how much he'll play or how well. | | | 2. | Chris Paul - CP3 is one of the league's rising stars. Had injury troubles last year, but should have solid year. | | | 3. | Gilbert Arenas - Swears he'll lead the league in scoring, then sign monster deal. I tend to believe Agent 0. | | | 4. | Jason Kidd - Age is catching up, but he averaged more then 8 boards a game last year. Amazing. | | | 5. |
Amare Stoudemire - Will get points, boards, and blocks.
6. Yao Ming- My second choice, I am expecting big points and boards from Yao.

1.
|
| 2. | Rashard Lewis | - Fat new deal in Orlando (Eastern Conference) should up his numbers. Good pick. | | 3.T | im Duncan - | Too unselfish to be fantasy force. Injury to Parker might increase Roto-value. | | 4. | Dwight Howard | - Nick will win rebounding every week. | | 5. | Chris Bosh | -Will get points and rebounds, but is fighting plantar fascitis. | | 6. |
| - An energized Pau on a fast-breaking Grizzlies team could be a match mad ein heaven. |

|
| 1. | Ray Allen | -No one quite knows how Boston's trio will mesh, but is a lock for 19 ppg and a steal. | | 2. | Michael Redd | - Well, at least Nunzi will get some FGA under his belt. | | 3. | Carlos Boozer | - The Booze Man is a workhorse who figures to play at All-Star level. | | 4. | Carmelo Anthony | -Melo has got to start playing more of an all-around game, and it's a matter of time before the Answer wants his shots. | | 5. | Paul Pierce | -See Ray Allen, but something inside me tells me Pierce will defer more then KG and Allen. | | 6. | Baron Davis | -Went big first 3 rounds, so I needed a guard. Davis had a great playoffs, and will get assists, points, steals, and rebounds (for a guard) |
| 1. | Kevin Durant -I was elated he was still here. Will be the first option in the run-n-gun. Don't forget how he led the nation in rebounds. | | | 2. | Andre Iguodala - Lots of turnovers, but he is no longer the second fiddle in Philly. | | | 3. | Vince Carter -Lock for 22 ppg, and may be energized and sensing a last hurrah for Nets. | | | 4. | Tracy McGrady -The Rockets will run alot more under Rick Adelman, and look for T-Mac to have a great year (health, points, assists) | | | 5. | Deron Williams - The leader of the Jazz has weapons at his disposal. | | | 6. | Marcus Camby - Don't look now, but Joe got the league leader in blocks with 3.3 a game. Camy also averaged nearly 12 boards. | |
| 1. | Chauncey Billups - I foresee a dropoff in production as Pistons grow older. | | | 2. | Luol Deng - All-around game is great for fantasy. | | | 3. | Allen Iverson - In that offense, AI's potential is scary. | | | 4. | Gerald Wallace - Huge deal, new sidekick in JRich could spell great, balanced year. | | | 5. | Caron Butler - Flies under the radar, but he scores, gets boards, plays D, and is unselfish. | | | 6. | Brandon Roy - Point guard eligible, and I like the reigning ROY's game. | |
| 1. | Jermaine O'Neal - Im not a fan of his at all, but no denying talent and numbers (especially if he is traded to LA or NJ) | | | 2. | Al Jefferson - Probably will be a 17-10 guy in Minnesota. | | | 3. | Joe Johnson - Keeps getting better every year and is the first option in Atlanta. | | | 4. | Lamar Odom - As a Kobe deal looms more and more, Odom's value increaeses exponentially. Props to Clark. | | | 5. | Zach Randolph - Isaih got him for a reason, and he will get tons of touches. | | | 6. | Jason Richardson - I hated this deal for the Bobcats. He will get atrempts and chances to score, but I think he needs to run. | |
-
| 1. | Josh Howard - Good pick | to help in each category. | | 2. | Stephen Jackson - | Might score 20 this year, just needs his head on ALOT straighter. | | 3. | Ron Artest - | Will score more then in the past, and of course get steals. | | 4. | Emeka Okafor - | Good pick by Billy to help tremendously in blocks and rebounds. Okafor will be an All-Star sooner rather then later. | | 5. | Rasheed Wallace | I don't expect much from Sheed this year. Still good option for points and assists though. | | 6. | Andrei Kirilenko - | Others were scared by recent negative publicity, but I think he will have a tremendous bounceback year and return to being a fantasy force. |
| 1. | Leandro Barbosa -Even as a bench player, Barbosa is extremely valuable in a number of categories. Gotta love D'Antoni's Offense. | | | 2. | Kevin Martin - Sacramento's new star is a young Scottie Pippen. Jared had good foresight. | | | 3. | Ben Gordon - Not a huge fan of his, but Billy most definetly helped himself in the points department. Don't rule out a Kobe trade, in which case he'd avergae 23 ppg (assuming he'd go to LA) | | | 4. | Antawn Jamison - When healthy, Jamison is very valuable and is eligible at both F spots. | | | 5. | LaMarcus Aldridge - Especially with Oden out, he and Brandon Roy assume roles of go-to guys. | | | 6. | Mike Bibby - Has he fallen off he face of the earth or what? I expect a continued drop. | |
-
| 1. | Mike Miller - He's a one dimensional guy, but a very good one. Peculiar choice considering Joe's team has 3 point snipers already. | | | 2. | Boris Diaw - He will have a bounceback year for Nunz, and how bout him being C-eligible? | | | 3. | Tyson Chandler - Tremendous shotblocker, but should get points dropoff with the arrival of MoPete, and the healthy returns of Peja, CP3, and David West. | | | 4. | Ben Wallace - Getting older, but still good for boards, blocks, and steals. | | | 5. | Manu Ginobili - Parker's hurt, so Jared nay get a few assists and more points from Manu. | | | 6. | Andrea Bargnani - My favorite player. Besides that, he will be center eligible soon and have a substantial increase in minutes. | |
| 1. | Andris Biedrins - Maybe a reach (ok, definetly) on my part, but I love the guy. Biendrins will get points and rebounds. | | | 2. | Kirk Hinrich - Don't like him, but he sure does contribute. | | | 3. | Jason Terry - Continues to grow as a point guard year to year, but now won't get as many dimes with Devin Harris assuming the starting role. | | | 4. | Corey Maggette - Expected to opt out at season's end, so I expect a good year. | | | 5. | Monta Ellis - One of the high flying Warriors who will play above talent. He is well-rounded and an emerging star. | | | 6. | David West - If he is healthy, he will pick up where he left off. | |
| 1. | Ricky Davis - New role as top man will be relished. His attempts will be off the charts, but so will his points. | | | 2. | Mehmet Okur - Okur was an All-Star last year, and the level of AK-47's play will determine Okur's value. | | | 3. | Danny Granger - Indiana's young gun is an all-around player. | | | 4. | Stephon Marbury - Starbury will be forced to give the ball inside, but he is only 2 years removed from superstar numbers. | | | 5. | Mo Williams - Jared may have gotten a late round steal. Williams averaged nearly 5 boards a game last year. | | | 6. | T.J. Ford - Injuries have plagued him, but the Phoenix-East offense gives him ample chances at points and dimes. | |
| 1. | Tony Parker - Parker is always a solid player, and will help my team on many levels. | | | 2. | Richard Hamilton - Rip will probably set a career-high in attempts and points. | | | 3. | Shaquille O'Neal - Billy was the brave one who pulled the trigger, and it might just work. | | | 4. | Josh Childress - Tall, rangy, all-around game (like 20 other Hawks). | | | 5. | Andres Nocioni - Good, hard-nosed player who is better in reality then fantasy, but still servicable. | | | 6. | Nene Hilario - When will they start calling him Nene? Not sure if he fits the offense, but will contribute boards and blocks. | |
| 1. | Peja Stojakovic - Joe may get an All-Star caliber steal. | | | 2. | Andrew Bynum - I'm fairly certain this is a reach, but who can tell? | | | 3. | Richard Jefferson - See Vince Carter. RJ could have a monster season at both ends. | | | 4. | Andre Miller - Miller is now in Philly, and his points may get a spike, but expect assists to go down in slower pace. | | | 5. | Samuel Dalembert - One-trick pony will get blocks, but scored a surprising amount for team Canada (that's right, Canada) | | | 6. | Eddy Curry - I reached for him, but after looking at his stats other then scoring, I dropped him in favor of Seattle rook Jeff Greene. | |
| 1. | Al Horford - Extremely NBA ready, only thing that made me pick him this low was competition for playing time and possible laziness resulting from the schedule and losing. | | | 2. | Al Harrington - Could very well score a ton. I'm kicking myself for passing on him. That deal with Indy certainly seems to have favored Mullin. | | | 3. | Yi Jianlian - This pick is hard to gauge, but my take is that it is extremely early to take him. | | | 4. | Cuttino Mobley - Forgot all about him, but Nick grabbed some quick points. | | | 5. | Mike James - Nunzi grabbed a shoot-first, shoot-second guard. | | | 6. | Morris Peterson - In a style more fitting to his skills, MoPete is a threat for 16 points, 5 boards and a steal per game. | |
| 1. | David Lee - Playing time took a hit with Randolph addition. | | | 2. | J.R. Smith - I thought Nunzi had better options here, but okay addition nonetheless. | | | 3. | Andrew Bogut - Emerging young star is a warrior who is expected to lead team to the playoffs. | | | 4. | Tayshaun Prince - Prince just doesn't do enough of anything. If outstanding man- and help-defense were stats, he'd be golden. | | | 5. | Anthony Parker - As a die-hard Raps fan, I wanted him, but it was probably good he got taken. Will make 3s. | | | 6. | Marvin Williams - I couldn't believe I picked 3 Hawks (a sure sign of being doomed), but Marv does everything. | |
| 1. | Rudy Gay - I need a way to separate emotions from drafting. Can you tell I like raw, intriguing talent about to break out? | | | 2. | Shane Battier - Good choice that is often overlooked. He is more then a solid team guy, he is a fantasy contributor. | | | 3. | Zydrunas Ilgauskas - Big Z is a high-risk, high-reward guy. | | | 4. | Nenad Krstic - Krstic is coming off a bad injury, but if he comes back at a similar level, he will be a good bench option. | | | 5. | Steve Francis - Stevie Franchise is back in Houston, but will be the 3rd or 4th option. Matter of time before he rebels. | | | 6. | Luke Walton - Jesus Christ. | |
| 1. | Walter Herrmann - Looks like Jesus. Hermann is actually a good option though. | | | 2. | Charlie Villanueva - Returning from injury. Must fight Yi for minutes. | | | 3. | Quentin Richardson - He will get steals and shoot 3s. | | | 4. | Jamal Crawford - Playing time is inconsistent. | | | 5. | Randy Foye - Emerging point guard with bigger role now that KG is gone. | | | 6. |
Jose Calderon - Had to take him as complement to Ford, much like my football combo of Lawrence Maroney/Sammy Morris.
Review of my team:
Centers: Yao Ming and Andriens Biendrins. Yao is about to take next step as a superstar, and Biendrins is a hustle guy who is the only real inside option.
Power Forwards: Andrea Bargnani and Jermaine O'Neal. O'Neal is a superstar in any respect and Bargnani is a personal favorite who will undoubtedly have increased production, much of it in stats unusual for big men.
Small Forwards: Kevin Garnett and Andrei Kirlienko. AK-47 is an unknown who has top 20 fantasy talent, and KG could win the MVP award.
Forwards: Al Horford and Marvin Williams. I think I'm the only person with 3 Hawks on their team. Regardless, I think they are both good options who will help in each category, especially if the Hawks continue to run.
Shooting Guards: Josh Smith and Kevin Durant. Are they the 2 biggest SGs in the league? I think. Are they 2 big risks? Yes. Hopefully both will pay off, and I'd bet the farm Durant will surprise.
Point Guards: Baron Davis and Brandon Roy: Roy is taking charge of the Blazers and I believe will be an All-Star. Davis may lead the league in assists and all point guards in points. Long rebounds available in the Bay will help me too.
Guards: Leandro Barbosa and TJ Ford: Both quick guards who play in the 2 fastest offenses in the NBA. I like these 2 if they can stay healthy (Ford) and get consistent minutes (Barbosa, behind Grant Hill).
Utility: Rudy Gay and Jeff Green: Nearly identical games. Even though he's a rookie, Green may be more polished and NBA ready, and will be a prominent option in Seattle.
Bench: Jose Calderon and Tony Parker: I will be sure to keep Parker or trade him, he won't be dropped outright. Calderon is being kept because A. He's a Raptor and B. as insurance for Ford. If Ford stays healthy for a while, I will probably explore other options such as Corey Brewer .
Free Agent Options: I looked at a number of free agents following the draft. I was intrigued by Green and dropped Curry to get him. Corey Brewer is intriguing, but only if he wins a spot in the Wolves' top 7. Raymond Felton could help out a team but I am guard heavy. I am keeping my eye on Rajon Rondo for assist and steals, and Darko Millicic for points and blocks. I came close to picking up Luis Scola, as he fits in well with Houston and probably has a starting role.
