Rank These College Rivalries

A lot of people will have you believe that the best rivalry in College Football is Michigan-Ohio State. No offense to the Buckeyes and Wolverines but the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry doesn’t get my mojo running like a hot blonde or brunette (whichever I’m in the mood for that night) in a strip club. Is it just me, but does this 2006 edition seem to be lacking something? Maybe it’s because we’ve heard about it for so long…After all, this is college football regular season Super Bowl if you will, right? I don’t know, maybe my sexuality is out of whack this week, you know sometimes it gets like that. I’m just not feeling this showdown like I believe I should be feeling it. Something is indeed missing!

Nevertheless, since some people will disagree with me and think this Ohio State-Michigan thing is the greatest thing since sliced bread, all I’ll say is…"I bet you voted for Bush, too!" Not once, but twice! Thanks for looking out! Go Clinton!! Nevertheless, what’s done is done…However, this leads me to create my own voting ballot. All the candidates are very much worthy of consideration of being dubbed "The Best College Football Rivalry", though only one lucky one will get the distinct pleasure of giving you that $10 table dance…So who is it? That’s up to you to decide. Now if the ten dollar table side dance doesn’t get your blood flowing, might I suggest that $20 friction dance…It gives more bang for your buck by ranking these 12 rivalries 1-12, (as you can see that’s why I purposely didn’t number them…Didn’t want to influence any voters out here) FOR I’M NOT A POLITICIAN! So show me what you got! Please feel free to add write in votes as well, if these candidates don’t give you that warm and fuzzy feeling!

My BCFR Standings are Below! For those of you who don’t know want BCFR, my condolences! It’s Best College Football Rivalries….GOSH, IDIOTS!

Alabama vs. Auburn Alabama leads 38-30-1 according to Alabama, 38-29-1 according to Auburn…Can’t we all just get along?

Ohio State vs. Michigan Michigan leads the series, 56-37-6. This was voted top college football Rivalry in a recent ESPN online poll

Oklahoma vs. Texas Texas leads the series, 56-39-5…Still will be dubbed the "Red River Shootout" to me! I give a rats ass what Corporate America tags it as!

Army vs. Navy Army leads the series, 49-49-7….A Good Ole Fashion Stale Mate! That’s what this rivalry is, but no matter how stale the bread is, I’ll eat it up!

Texas vs. Texas A&M Texas leads the series, 70-34-5…This was voted the top college football rivalry in an USA Today online poll. What a classic the day after Thanksgiving…Now if we can only move this game to Thanksgiving instead of watching the Detroit Lions or the annual Egg Bowl down in Mississippi

Florida vs. Georgia Georgia leads the series 45-35-2 or According to Florida, Georgia leads the series 45-36-2…Can’t we all just get along at the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party?" OOPS, I forgot, it’s not technically called that anymore…Better known as "REDNECK HEAVEN"

USC vs. UCLA USC leads the series, 40-27-7 The battle for the Victory Bell & the opportunity to reign supreme in Hugh Hefner land. UCLA has no greater recruiting tool than this…"The Grotto" is only a pigskin throw away from Pauly Pavilion

Nebraska vs. Oklahoma Nebraska leads the series, 40-37-3….Lost for words on this one since they don’t play annually anymore. Big props to the Big 12 for that!

Harvard vs. Yale Yale leads the series, 64-46-8. Why it’s Tommy Hilfiger vs. Ralph Lauren…Starbucks vs. Barnies…BMW vs. Mercedes Benz

California vs. Stanford Stanford leads the series, 54-42-11. "The Big Game," give me the band, the play, and the poor bastard that got pile driven into the turf any day.

USC vs. Notre Dame Notre Dame leads the series 42-30-5…It’s the "National Titles and Heisman's Gala"!

Florida vs. Florida State Florida leads series 28-19-2… A bitter feud between Rednecks & Indians! Both of which are packing bows & arrows!

Florid State-Miami Miami leads the series 29-21 – Convicts vs. Criminoles…Hide the women & children for this momentous affair! Nuff said!

USC-Notre Dame is the greatest by far. This one isn't even close. There are so many story lines. You have the classic midwest school versus the LA Hollywood boys. Its either played in October at ND or in Nov. in LA where it is an absolute party. So many Heisman winners have played in this game. The hisotry and mystique is bar none.

How is it the National Titles and Heisman's Gala when Notre Dame doesn't have any national titles?

Are you kidding me! Have you been asleep all your life. ND versus SC is HUGE! Notre Dame has the most national titles by the way.

I was tired and confusing BCS games with National Championships. But seriously, in all my life as a pretty big college football fan, I've never known USC/Notre Dame as a serious rivalry. I've never noticed it ever being made a bigger deal than two good teams playing each other.

Key Stat for Mich/OSU: OSU leads by three games if you start the rivalry when it really got good, the first year of the Woody Hayes era.

What if you start before it got good? What's the all time count?

ha! I believe it would oh, um, let's see...56-37-6 But cpcp makes a good point, in recent years the rivalry has grown even more as the two teams have been more evenly matched and both among the nation's best. (yes, with some down years mixed in).

You have to be a Texan to fully appreciate the UT-A&M rivalry, in the same way that I think you have to be from Alabama to fully appreciate the Iron Bowl. Pat Forde (I believe that's who it was) was right to point out that an in-state rivalry is so much more intense than an out-of-state rivalry, because you live amongst each other. Aggies and Longhorns are scattered throughout the state, they compete bitterly for some of the best high school recruits in the country. USC and Notre Dame is a really fun mathcup, but that rivarly isn't a way of life like some of these in-state rivalries are. And LastRow is right - the post-Thanksgiving Day matchup is one of the great traditions of football.

You bring up a great point about having to live in Texas to appreciate the UT-A&M rivalry. I've lived all my life in Chicago and am now out at UCLA for collge, and I never realized how big that rivalry was. I knew about the passion that comes with the Red River Shootout, but I was never aware of the magnitude of the rivalry with A&M.

Ideally I'd like to go see each of these games in person and then decide, but that's just a pipe dream. So keeping in mind that I may be a bit uninformed when it comes to other rivalries, I'll give my vote to Michigan-OSU. What's at stake year in and year out really adds to this rivalry.

What do you guys think about the Michigan-ND rivalry? I always thought that was a bigger one than the USC-ND tilt.

I think part of you missing how intense the rivalry is also has to do with the fact that A&M's program has been down in recent years. The rivalry is intense for those who care, but it's been a while since A&M has really put up a fight, and it's been even longer since A&M was a player on the national level like UT is every season. I think A&M has only won one out of something like their last eight meetings.

As for Notre Dame-Michigan, that's another intense rivalry. Without a great amount of knowledge about either school, I'd probably put it on par with the ND-USC rivalry. It's an annual matchup that pits traditional powerhouses against each other, which is always fun. I might give a SLIGHT edge to Michigan-ND just because the states are closer together, and Indiana is Big 10 country.

Wheres the love for the Commonwealth Cup? UVA-VA Tech. Almost 100 years in the making. For the same reason you have to be a Texan to understand UT-A&M you need to be a Virginian to understand this.
