Randy Velarde (Randy Lee Velarde) was born on November 24, 1962 in Midland, Texas. He made his Major League debut on August 20, 1987 for the New York Yankees. In 1990, his rookie year, he hit .210 with 5 home runs and 19 RBI. Velarde played for the New York Yankees, California Angels, Anaheim Angels, Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers over the course of his 15 year career.

Velarde was among the group of former and current players named in the Mitchell Report. The excerpt on Velarde in the report is 83 words long and in it, Velarde admits, through his lawyer, that he received and used performance enhancing "substances" in 2003. The excerpt is in Section VII of the report titled, "Major League Baseball and the BALCO Investigation."

Most people believe that Randy Velarde's best season was 1999, when he slugged 16 home runs, hit for a .317 average and knocked in 76 runs.
