Born on January 23, 1918 in Monocacy, Pennsylvania, Randy Gumpert (Randall Pennington Gumpert) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 10 year career. Gumpert broke into the bigs on June 13, 1936 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 4.76 ERA in 62.1 innings pitched in 1936, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Randy Gumpert's best season was 1946, when he posted a 2.31 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 63 batters.
