Random Thoughts and Brutal Honesty IV

First off, A Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year to my Armchair family. With that out of the way, let's get down to business.

- The New York Little Giants are finished. Their pathetic performance in what will be Tiki Barber's final home game was the ultimate disgrace of their entire season. Tom Coughlin and the entire coaching staff needs to follow Tiki Barber out the door. There is no way they're beating the Washington Redskins and they do not deserve to make the playoffs. I've never seen such a talented offensive football so pathetically inadequate and so horribly coached.

- On the other hand, the New York Jets continue to show miles and miles of heart, guts and character with their big win over Miami. They are now in full control of their own destiny only needing a win over the pathetic Raiders. Shine up the NFL Coach of the Year Award and give it to Mangini. Did anyone think coming into the season that the Giants would be burning in flames while the Jets blossom at such a rapid pace? They got an assist from Nick Saban whom for whatever reason decided to yank Joey Harrington in favor of Lemon and then to make a gutless field goal on a critical 4th and 1 call inside the red zone. I'm sure every member of the Bengals, Titans, Jaguars and Chiefs threw their respective pieces of furniture across the room at that point.

-There is a part of me that strongly hopes that Favre and the Packers makes the playoffs. And if every football fan searched themselves, they would probably feel the same.

- At one time, it looked like the Giants would run away with the NFC East, then it went to the Cowboys, now it is in the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. Personally, I never counted this team out when McNabb was injured. There is considerable leadership in Andy Reid, Jim Johnson and the battle-tested veterans on both sides of the ball. As for the Cowboys, they have questions to answer after a second straight embarassing home loss on national TV. Their offense looked dreadful and the playcalling on that goalline stand by the Eagles defense was reminiscent of the playcalling by the Little Giants.

There is another part of me that hopes that Vince Young and the Titans make the playoffs as well. They would have to do a lot of scoreboard watching and praying.

The Florida Gators took a bite out of Greg Oden and the Buckeyes 86-60 on Saturday. The two losses that the Gators were due to the absence of Taurean Green. They are still the favorite. Mr Momentum is on the side of the Gators heading into the BCS-C Championship Game on the 8th of January.

Finally, I'd like to gave a big Cheers to Steven Jackson and Maurice Jones-Drew who had huge games and propelled me to a Yahoo Fantasy Football League Championship. The running game for the Rams and Jags should be in good hands for years to come.

I disagree on your Coach of the Year Selection. If the Eagles finish off winning the NFC East, Andy Reid deserves the trophy. Then again, if the Titans make the playoffs, Jeff Fisher gets my vote. The Jets coach has had a nice season, but it has not been a coach of a year type of performance.

Andy Reid has done a tremondous job this year and definitely deserves to be in the running. But did anybody on the planet expect the New York Jets to even sniff the playoffs this year? This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Jets. Mangini and his coaching staff have a whole bunch of rookies and new players on their team plus a QB coming back from shoulder surgery. And they are about to make the playoffs in a superior AFC conference. It's definitely been a Coach of the year performance! I will agree with you on the fact that Jeff Fisher should get the award if the Titans make the playoffs, but the award has to go to Mangini.

What? You don't have any faith in the Eli Manning led offense? I mean, Manning comes from the holiest quarterbacking family that this world has ever seen. This is why he was drafted #1. And what about Mr. Tiki Barber, who is retiring, because his wife doesn't want him to end up being a cripple and thus forcing her to raise their kids alone. And then there is Jeremy Shockey, who is the ultimate trailer park hick. And who else am I forgetting but Mr. Randy Moss wannabe, Plexico! How can you not believe in them? Okay, having read what I wrote, yeah, I can see why you have no hope. My bad.

Then I am surprised that the Pats did not sign him when their first two punters went down with injuries.

Ah, instead of Landetta, the Pats decided to take a locker-room cancer with connections to the steroid industry. Nice. Either the Pats are looking to get juiced for the playoffs, or Landetta is D-O-N-E!

Come on, if the Giants make the playoffs, there will be a rubber match between the Eagles and the Giants. Show some pride, Giants fans. Or are you simply afraid of those big bad Eagles?

ha, im just kidding (sort of)...I think the Giants would have an actual chance against either the Eagles or the Cowboys though...they beat both on the road, but lost both at home, so I can't figure this team out

It's gotten to the point where I don't even care if they do because I'll just assume they won't show up to play. Of course if they show up and play consistently, they'll have a chance to win any game against any team. But I'm quite sure they won't show up to play against Washington.

You beat the Eagles because the Eagles decided to lite the victory cigar in the third quarter and packed it in for the 4th. Of course, this led to OT, which the Eagles were not ready for. I have to admit, I would like to see a Giants-Eagles playoff game. Such a game has much more meaning then a Rams-Eagles or Packers-Eagles matchup.

yeah and the Eagles beat the Giants because the defense decided it wasnt going to hold any leads...the playoff matchup would be great though

Do the Giants have a defense left? I see that Strahan is IR'ed. The loss of LaVar has also been a killer.

And how could you forget Morton. Actually, I think the latest loss of Morton hurts the most. The Giants have played without Luke and Strahan for most of the second half of the season. On the other hand, Luke has been replaced with the human personal foul machine!

it doesnt even matter though...when your offense can't get into the OTHER TEAM'S TERRITORY the WHOLE GAME, the defense doesnt really matter

haha, thats what kills me the most...I don't mind (that is, i break a few less things) when my team loses as long as they play hard and smart...these personal fouls are just inexusable...couglin is supposed to a discipline guy...obviously, it ain't workin'

As fans, we have an obligation obviously to care about the team. But when you look at the performance and see the carelessness and the obvious quit shown in the Giants, it'll rub off on everyone else.

Good article. The Giants are an embarassment. They are as embarassing as the Knicks. Not only should Coughlin go, but Shockey has to go too. Giants need to clean house.
