First off, A Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year to my Armchair family. With that out of the way, let's get down to business.
- The New York Little Giants are finished. Their pathetic performance in what will be Tiki Barber's final home game was the ultimate disgrace of their entire season. Tom Coughlin and the entire coaching staff needs to follow Tiki Barber out the door. There is no way they're beating the Washington Redskins and they do not deserve to make the playoffs. I've never seen such a talented offensive football so pathetically inadequate and so horribly coached.
- On the other hand, the New York Jets continue to show miles and miles of heart, guts and character with their big win over Miami. They are now in full control of their own destiny only needing a win over the pathetic Raiders. Shine up the NFL Coach of the Year Award and give it to Mangini. Did anyone think coming into the season that the Giants would be burning in flames while the Jets blossom at such a rapid pace? They got an assist from Nick Saban whom for whatever reason decided to yank Joey Harrington in favor of Lemon and then to make a gutless field goal on a critical 4th and 1 call inside the red zone. I'm sure every member of the Bengals, Titans, Jaguars and Chiefs threw their respective pieces of furniture across the room at that point.
-There is a part of me that strongly hopes that Favre and the Packers makes the playoffs. And if every football fan searched themselves, they would probably feel the same.
- At one time, it looked like the Giants would run away with the NFC East, then it went to the Cowboys, now it is in the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. Personally, I never counted this team out when McNabb was injured. There is considerable leadership in Andy Reid, Jim Johnson and the battle-tested veterans on both sides of the ball. As for the Cowboys, they have questions to answer after a second straight embarassing home loss on national TV. Their offense looked dreadful and the playcalling on that goalline stand by the Eagles defense was reminiscent of the playcalling by the Little Giants.
There is another part of me that hopes that Vince Young and the Titans make the playoffs as well. They would have to do a lot of scoreboard watching and praying.
The Florida Gators took a bite out of Greg Oden and the Buckeyes 86-60 on Saturday. The two losses that the Gators were due to the absence of Taurean Green. They are still the favorite. Mr Momentum is on the side of the Gators heading into the BCS-C Championship Game on the 8th of January.
Finally, I'd like to gave a big Cheers to Steven Jackson and Maurice Jones-Drew who had huge games and propelled me to a Yahoo Fantasy Football League Championship. The running game for the Rams and Jags should be in good hands for years to come.
