Born on March 16, 1888 in Payson, Illinois, Ralph Works (Ralph Talmadge Works) played for the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 5 year career. Works broke into the bigs on May 1, 1909 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 1.97 ERA in 64 innings pitched in 1909, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Ralph Works's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1911, when he posted a 3.87 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 68 batters. However, others believe that it was 1909, when he posted a 1.97 ERA.
