[edit] Biography

Born on November 5, 1908 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ralph Birkofer (Ralph Joseph Birkofer) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 5 year career. Birkofer broke into the bigs on April 25, 1933 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.31 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched in 1933, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Ralph Birkofer's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1934, when he posted a 4.10 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 71 batters. However, others believe that it was 1935, when he posted a 4.07 ERA and struck out 80 batters.
