RIP Little Buddy

In some sad, though I realize it’s now somewhat old, news, Pedro’s little friend Nelson de la Rosa passed away last Sunday, 10/22. Nelson was an actor from the Dominican Republic who befriended Pedro Martinez and became somewhat of a symbol for the “idiots” who won the World Series in 2004. Pedro took him to some games and he was considered the team’s good luck charm.
There are mixed reports that de la Rosa was somewhere between 22 and 33 inches tall, likely being more towards the 30-inch mark. Nelson was only 38 years old and is survived by his wife and 9-year-old daughter, of normal size. It is also being said that he will have an autopsy and then his body will be displayed in a museum in the Dominican Republic.
He died of unknown causes in Rhode Island. Here’s to hoping that those unknown causes were actually pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconioses, the longest word in the English language (it’s only fair).
I’d personally like to thank Mr. de la Rosa for bringing a World Series to Boston and to show my thankfulness, here is a little video of Nelson de la Rosa doing a dance on a Dominican TV show [Queue “Dust in the Wind”].
