Quit Whining! A Hostile Hochuli Editorial

Refs screw up. Deal with it.
In Super Bowl XL, we Seahawks fans complained: we thought there were phantom calls that could have changed the outcome of the game. There were some missed calls, some changed calls or some terrible calls. But you know what? Those didn’t change the outcome. The team didn’t play very well the entire game. With the exception of a few plays, they were outdone by a better team.
So get over it.
This isn’t against Seahawks fans. This is against whiners. I am really tired of hearing about the blown call in the fourth Quarter of the Seahawks/Bengals game on Sunday.
On 1 st and 10 a pass from Hasselbeck was tipped back to him. He caught it and it looked like he made a football move before being taken down and losing the ball. This could have been called one of the following three things:
•1) Fumble (recovered by CIN)
•2) Loss of 10, fumble caused by ground
•3) Incomplete pass.
The way it looked is that it would be called a loss of 10, pushing them back to their own 46.
Ed Hochuli’s team (that's right...he was in Seattle!) team of officials called it an incomplete pass. Incomplete passes are not reviewable. This made it 2 nd and 10 instead of 2 nd and 20. But, even then, within 3 plays, they were in the end zone. Would this have changed things? Who knows.
Was the wrong call made? Yes. But we can’t fix that. I would like to point out a few things that went the Bengals way:
•1) An interception that was tipped off the hands of Marcus Pollard
•2) An interception that was flung off of the leg of Burleson into another DB’s hands
Now let’s look at the mistakes they made:
•1) Interception thrown to Deon Grant (under thrown)
•2) Interception thrown to Brian Russell (WAY over thrown)
•3) 15-yard facemask penalty on a 3 rd down pass
•4) Fumble on a kick return
•5) Shayne Graham kicking a ball out of bounds with the lead and 2:00 on the clock
•6) 10 penalties for 72 yards
•7) 4 turnovers
This is not a disciplined football team.
Johnson, boldly: "We could beat them on anything we wanted to beat them on."
Too bad you didn’t get to do that, huh Chad? Couldn’t get passed Marcus Trufant? The Defense stood up to your Offense allowing 1 touchdown through the air and one on the ground. “Bend-but-don’t-break”.
Look, every one can think that Hasselbeck fumbled or was tackled, but the fact of the matter is: “You couldn’t win”. If they were so much better, then they should have put up 40 points and not let it come down to the final play.
So, please whiners…SHUT UP. Games are not won and lost on one play or one bad call; it takes 60 minutes to win or 60 minutes to lose.
And take a quote from the great Tom Landry:
“I've learned that something constructive comes from every defeat.”
