Pumpsie Green (Elijah Jerry Green) was born on October 27, 1933 in Oakland, California. He made his Major League debut on July 21, 1959 for the Boston Red Sox. In 1959, his rookie year, he hit .233 with 1 home run and 10 RBI. Green played for the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets over the course of his 5 year career.

He was the first black player to play for the Red Sox.
