Pujols Oblique Strain "Moderate to Severe"

12
Vote

The St. Louis Cardinals' trainer Barry Weinberg diagnosed Albert Pujols' strained right oblique as "moderate to severe" on Sunday. Weinberg stated that injury was closer to severe and explained that Pujols had limited mobility. "Now, we just go through the steps of getting him better," Weinberg said. "The first thing he has to do is normal things: coughing, sneezing and opening the door. Then we can get more aggressive with the rehab and we can get more aggressive with some baseball activity." Pujols will receive an MRI tomorrow to further diagnosis the injury.

On the Phillies Broadcast yesterday, it was mentioned that La Russa expects Pujols to be out a month. From the video of Pujols injurying it, it doesn't look good.

If being able to cough and open doors is the first step to recovery, he will be out for awhile.

It seemed like such a routine play to get injured on. $20 says some idiot in the media plays the steroid card sometime in the next week. Because anyone who gets injured is on steroids, ya know.

Let's hope Pujols gets fixed up and going again really quick, and that his still fairly young career isn't too negatively affected by this. The worst thing in sports is not seeing a good player get hurt - it's seeing a good player get hurt and never fully recover (like Nomar).

nomar is having such a bad season! if he *was* fully recovered, would he be batting .500?

Isn't diagnosing an injury as "moderate to severe" pretty much saying "we have no idea how bad it is"? Isn't "moderate to severe" the entire spectrum for an injury?

Unfortunate for Albert and the Cards. Didn't actually see the injury but wasn't he just going for a routine pop-up? If that's so, that really sucks. It reminds me of when Benitez routinely trotted from the mound to first to cover and he ended up tearing 2 ligaments in the back of his thigh, causing him to miss the entire year. Or when Raja Bell's calf just spontaneously tore when he was on the perimeter earlier in the NBA postseason.

The question now becomes, are Rolen and Edmonds enough to overcome this. Can they both play up to snuff for about a month. Also, assuming Albert doesn't play the all-star game, who steps in for him?

Well, Edmonds is probably headed to the DL himself, so this team's offense will be terrible.

Or when Nomar fell over with a groin pull running from home plate, Ray?

Not saying its going to be a 2-4 weeks but it might not be as long of a recovery as origionally thought of months...Pujols is in great condition and didnt do much to aggetate the injury after it occured, he came out of the game. I also read today the it is on his right side and that is good news for any right handed batter (left oblique is the main muscle strained for batting for right handed batters). Edmonds did go with 3 hits and a walk Sunday against the Cubs, and with Rolen picking up Pujols' spot in the order we can hope he can swing beter than ever...Then there is Chris Duncan from Triple-A Memphis who did go 1 for 5 but the one hit was a homer...As for the records to be boroken...they will be...this year???maybe not but I would bet by 2010 HR and RBI records will belong to Pujols.

At least they didn't say slight to severe. Moderate to severe is just most of the spectrum. Ray, it was a routine popup. He wasn't even moving very fast. He was just going for a popup in foul ground and clutched his side.
