Prospect Watch: Angel Salome

Vote

by BrewersFanatics

Angel Salome, the Brewers #1 catching prospect who is currently in High-A Brevard County is having a solid year hitting the baseball. Salome currently has a .301 average with 6 home runs and 51 RBI. He also has 19 doubles. Angel sure knows how to hit.

If there's something he needs to work on though it's his plate discipline. While he's hitting .301 his on base percentage is only at .326. He reminds me of Johnny Estrada because they're both contact hitters that do not draw a ton of walks. Salome is still young though as he only turned 21 last month and he should gain more plate discipline in time.

Interesting. He's not on the Brewers top 15 prospect list yet is projected as the Brewers starter in 2010. When was he drafted?

He was drafted in 2004. He's definitely a top 10 prospect in the Brewers system, possibly even top 5.

He's the best Brewers catching prospect. Man whatever happened to Lou Palmisano? Yikes.

Palmisano is actually having a rebound season for Huntsville. He's batting .288 with a .399 OBP. He has 9 homers and 55 RBI.

I know it's Baseball America, but I don't know if I can trust a publication still willing to put Mark Rogers in the Top 5 and say a 22-year-old will be the closer in 2010.

The only issue I have with BA's list is the date, it was the Spring Training list. So it is certainly possible this kid has made a big move so far. Are you not concerned however this is his fourth year as a pro and he is still in A ball?

Rogers? Of course I'm concerned. That's why I pointed out that putting him 5th on the top prospects list is a joke.

Rogers is injured and out the entire season. I'm pretty much ready to classify him a bust because he when he was healthy he had severe control problems and didn't do too well.

I'm talking about Salome, guys. If he was drafted in '04, this is his fourth year as a pro and he is still in A ball.

He'll probably be promoted to Double-A before the season's end. But that would mean Palmisano gets promoted to Triple-A. He is still only 21.

Salome started playing pro ball in 2005. He spent 2005 in rookie league and moved to low-a. He spent all of 2006 in low-a and was promoted to high-a for 2007.
