First I will apologize for my poor English, because I am from Germany and this is the first time I write in English about sports. I hope it will be better after some more articles.
Tomorrow 8.45pm (CEST) starts the new season in the German Bundesliga. Last years champion Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will play the opening match at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Six games will follow Saturday afternoon and two on Sunday. This is also the new format for the game day, following the agreement with new pay-tv broadcaster arena.
Favourite for the new season is, like always, titleholder Bayern Munich. He made several transfers. Michael Ballack (to Chelsea), Bixente Lizarazu, Jens Jeremies (both retirement), Ze Roberto (Greece) and Paulo Guerrero (Hamburg) are gone. Lukas Podolski (shot three goals at the world cup) and Daniel van Buyten (196 cm tall, defender) are the new players. Biggest rival are Werder Bremen. They lost Johan Micoud (back to France), but got good replacements, as Diego (Argentina, midfield) and Per Mertesacker (defender, national team) will play in green-white. Contenders in the title-race are also Hamburger SV and Schalke 04. These four teams plus Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin will represent Germany in the European cups. Munich and Bremen will play in the Champions League. Hamburg is in the qualifying round for the CL.
The promoted teams from the second division are Vfl Bochum, Energie Cottbus and Alemania Aachen. These three teams and Arminia Bielefeld, Mainz 05 and Vfl Wolfsburg are threatened by relegation from the beginning of the season.
Every team will play each other twice on 34 game days. After the season the team with the most points is the new champion (win three pts, tie one pt.). The last three teams must go in division two.
I will try to give a recap after every game day about all games.
