Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll Released Friday

10
Vote

Friday, USA Today released the first coaches' poll for the College Football season. This poll, along with the Harris Interactive poll, are the two "human polls" used as part of BCS Standings.

Ohio State was voted number one by the coaches with 28 first place votes. Texas came in second. A tie for third place included USC and Notre Dame. Oklahoma, despite recent controversy, rounds out the top five.

I am suprised to still find Oklahoma ranked so high. I wonder if the stuff with Bomar took place after the deadline for the rankings. Other than that, I am not too suprised by the top five, at least.

The coaches definitely had their ballots in before the Oklahoma controversy hit the media. Wait till the next poll comes out, it will reflect that change.

I'm going to take the time to drop a promo for ArmchairGM's own poll. Users still have 11 more days before the polls close! Head over to AGM User Top 25 College Football Poll: 2006 Preseason to cast your votes. And our users still have the chance to alter their rankings to reflect the Bomar incident ;)

Yeah, I just saw a few people have OK number one, they might want to fix that.

See, this is why I hate polls before the first game. The votes were likely due in earlier this week, before the Sooner crisis occurred. This is just stupid.

Yeah, it had to have been done earlier this week, because I can see the Sooners being placed that high even with recent controversies, but I can't see them getting the 13 first place votes they got. That's even more than Texas, Notre Dame and USC. I'm really stunned to see Texas that high, too. I've been saying all season that expectations for them are too low, but I wouldn't have ranked them above Notre Dame or Auburn.

Had this thing come out a few hours earlier, this would have gotten the Friday Fryer Chair.

Reason #812 I Dislike Polls in College Football:

[[[OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES:]]] ... Duke 1

Three reasons for this:
1.It's an attempt from the inside to take down the BCS by making the Coaches Poll a farce.
2. Coaches are morons
3. The vote was by Frank Solich in a moment of DWI solidarity with J.J. Redick.

I think it was number 3.

Actually Steve Spurrier always gives Duke the 25th position in his preseason poll. That's where the one point for Duke comes from.

Really? Oh, that's somewhat dissapointing. I was hoping for something juicier.
