Premier League Sods 20 Aug 2007

Man City 1 - Man Utd 0

Everyone will endow you with the usual drivel about how the Red Devils are fundamentally flawed, despite all of Ferguson's spending. Yes, they lack a true striker in the hole. They did much of last season as well when they tore the league apart with their attacking football. The truth is that they dominated much of the play, created chances, and squandered them. Man City defended well, but only really threatened the opposing goal once and took advantage of it. Man U have set themselves back a bit in the title challenge, but they should still be a factor.

Liverpool 1 - Chelsea 1

Instant Karma is going to get you, it's going to knock you right in the head. Styles' penalty call was wrong. But, has Liverpool really only conceded two penalties at Anfield the last two seasons? With kickin' Jamie Carragher at Center Half? We think not. The most disappointing aspect of the match was the thirty post-penalty minutes where neither club seemed to want it. Both maintain the pretense of an attacking game, but one wonders if the Iberian managers will gradually revert to their beloved cynicism and physicality. We would also like it just once if John Terry could go an entire match without verbally assaulting a referee.

Reading 1 - Everton 0

If he weren't a complete jerk, Stephen Hunt might be one of our favorite Premier League Players. Reading aren't pretty, but they are getting the results to keep them solidly mid-table. Everton will feel hard done by to come away with nothing. Moyes loves his squad, and with Arteta's acumen with the football who could blame him? But, they may need another striker to solidify another European campaign. Yakubu come on down!

Middlesbrough 2 - Fulham 1

We questioned after McBride's goal why Premier League Highlghts on ESPN fail to focus on the Americans plying their trade abroad. Bocanegra and Dempsey gave us the answer.

Good work! Excellent breakdown of the Liverpool-Chelsea game. Sadly, I don't think John Terry has the versatility in his vocabulary to refrain from verbally assaulting the referees. By the way, is it just me, or is John Terry the bizarro-Derek Jeter?

Call me crazy, but I still think United could go all the way. We have dominated play in all 3 matches but have been lacking the finishing touch. The goals will come...I hope so anyway. It broke my heart when Vidic's effort bounced out and when Tevez missed the header from 2 yards out. Thankfully Styles insured the draw between Liverpool and Chelscum....why don't we have the young Schmichel?

Agreed. United are far from finished. Ronaldo will be back soon and I think the arrival of a new striker via the transfer market is also coming.

Never underestimate United's chances, I may not like United but I have to respect the managerial capabilities of Sir Alex. PS, C'MON THE ARSENAL!

PS John Terry is the most overrated player in the prem. No way is he worth £133K a week. I don't think he should be England Captain either. Even though I am a United fan, I think Gerrard was the natural choice for England's skipper. Think of what he has done for liverpool over the past 3 seasons and I think you may agree with me.

Terry should deserve credit for what he does. He is a great last defender. But much of that is due to the players he has around him like Makelele. He is pretty overrated. I am not sure if he is the most overrated. My vote would be for Aaron Lennon.

How about that nice pass terry made too help set up Germany's 2nd goal last night--which, bt the way, was a magnificnet strike. Terry's rubbish. Essien and Carvalheo are the class defenders for Chelsea. I will say he is competant in most areas defensively, but that's about it.
