Prediction: Marlins Will Trade Miguel Cabrera to the Mets

By the end of this year the Florida Marlins will trade 23-year-old budding-superstar Miguel Cabrera. Why? Cabrera is eligible for arbitration for the first time next winter.

Cabrera will receive about $7,000,000 to $10,000,000 in arbitration after the season. However, it is unlikely that the Marlins will be willing to pay this handsome sum, evident from their reluctance to give Josh Beckett $4,000,000 to $5,000,000 this winter.

Miggy is awesome. He's defensively versatile: Cabrera plays third base or the outfield corners. To quote Napolean Dynamite, he's got skills. His talent ranks with the best: Frank Robinson, Albert Pujols, Vladimir Guerrero, Eddie Murray, Hank Aaron, and Johnny Bench. If Cabrera keeps it up, he could command $20,000,000 easy from some willing suitor.

Who will get the bounty from the penny-pinching Marlins? The Yankees? George's toy box is aleady full. The Yankees are over-burdened by long-term contracts, especially in the outfield and third-base. Arod isn't going anywhere. Hideki Matsui isn't going anywhere. Johnny Damon just got signed to a long-term deal, and the Yanks will extend Gary Sheffield's contract during the next off-season (even if he punches another fan).

Who then would be a perfect fit? Ahh, the Metropolitans of New York. A team with some solid blue chip prospects--Lastings Milledge, Pelfrey, etc.--and enough room and flexibility to bring Miggy on board.

The Kris Benson trade gave the Mets an extra $9 million to play with next year. The Mets will also have some spare change once Tom Glavine's contract expires this off-season. Benson's savings plus Glavine's contract give the Mets some financial feedom.

Top Prospects + salary room could mean Cabrera wearing Blue and Orange by the end of the year.

Dolphins stadium is a pitchers park like Shea. His numbers would be comprable.

no chance the marlins deal him to anyone in the NL East, especially the mets. Wishful thinking is right.

I think you are terribly wrong. The combination of D.Wright,Miggy,C.Beltran, & not mention their pitching staff would make the mets an almost garanteed championship team!

Who else is going to have the cash and prospects to get him? If the Marlins internally know they aren't going to keep him, then they will move him.

That is a dangerous prospect, because Cabrera could attract Bobby Abreu to the Mets as well. Look for Venezuela to upset the DR in their WBC division.

I don't think the Marlins really care what they trade to whom at this point

More likely scenario would be the Marlins and Cabrera agreeing on a semi-cheap long-term deal. I think the Marlins are willing to go an extra dollar or two on a guy like Cabrera.

I like the Angels to get Cabrera, if anybody does. They've got the cash, they have no long term option at third (if they keep Brandon Wood at short) and better prospects than the Mets. But I imagine the Marlins will hold on to him as long as they can.

MIGGY has unthinkable, tremendous, and incredible power. To pass aaron's record, he should be on a team with low walls; especially in left. The only reason bonds is close to aaron's record is because he takes steroids. cabrera is pure power and that's really freaky

Prediction - Cabrera will remain a Marlin this season, along with the D-Train. Prediction 2- Marlins will be in the hunt for the Wild Card until the final weekend of the season.

Cabrera will be moving to the west coast. He will be a SF Giant.Barry will pass the torch on to him.His attitude and work ethic will improve. And at 26 he will be the guy for many years in Frisco.Sorry East coast no Cabrera for you.Giants have been eyeing him for two seasons now.Watch,I'm excited already. The Marlins will regret messing with this great 5 tool talent.Batting titles and atleast 2 MVP"s for this guy.Only second to Pujols in the next 15 seasons barring health.Love this guy totally.
