Born on February 26, 1915 in Ash Flat, Arkansas, Preacher Roe (Elwin Charles Roe) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 12 year career. Roe broke into the bigs on August 22, 1938 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.11 ERA in 185.1 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Preacher Roe's best season was 1951, when he posted a 3.04 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 113 batters.
