Possum Whitted (George Bostic Whitted) was born on February 4, 1890 in Durham, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut on September 16, 1912 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1913, his rookie year, he hit .220 with 0 home runs and 38 RBI. Whitted played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 10 year career.

Most people believe that Possum Whitted's best season was 1916, when he stole 29 bases, hit for a .281 average and knocked in 68 runs.
