Possible Scenarios Involving the Yankees-Orioles Postponed Game

Last night, the Yankees-Orioles game was suspended in the middle of the 8th inning due to rain. The Yankees had just taken the lead in the top of the 8th inning, so the game will now be finished July 27th beginning with the bottom of the 8th inning. I was thinking of a lot of weird scenarios and wanted to know if anyone had the answers to these probably irrelevant questions:

I don't REALLY care what the answers are, but I think it's still interesting...

1.Let's say Derek Jeter went 0-3 in last night's game..before that game he was on a 40 game hitting streak, after it he went on a 15 game hitting streak and then he goes 0-4. ....and then a few weeks later, they play the end of the postponed game and he gets a base hit...56 game hitting streak?

2. What happens if the Orioles and Yankees make a trade between now and then. Let's say Jeter gets traded to the orioles. Can the orioles use him as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning of that game?...that box score would look very weird.

3. Let's say the Orioles trade away a lot of players. Imagine they have 10 new players on that team by the time July 27 rolls around. Are they allowed to replace each of their starters with a new player. That would mean they had something like a 35 man roster for that game.

the Yanks should trade Proctor to the Orioles, so he can come into the game in the top of the 9th if the Yanks should fall behind

Better: Give them Farnsworth and Vizcaino so the Yanks can blow the game open.

Does anyone really czare if they finish that game? Aren't both teams realistically out of the playoffs?

By the end of July, these teams will be MATHEMATICALLY out of the playoff picture.

This is like one of those, "What's beyond the universe?" type of questions. It's really weird and makes my head hurt when I think about it. :-P

They tried explaining the new rain-related rules last night and it just left me confused. Can someone clarify?

1) Regardless of when the game was finished, and what happened, it goes into the record books as a complete game on the day is was scheduled. So if Jeter went 0-3 yesterday, and 1-1 on September first, it would count as a hit on todays date, not September 1.

2) Answer is yes. If players are traded, they belong to their new team, so it is conceivable Jeter's name would appear in the final boxscore on both sides.

3)Answer is again, yes.
