And the downward spiral for Lloyd Carr and the Michigan Wolverines begins anew as Big Ten officials are determining the penalties that will be assessed against due to the use of ineligible freshman safety Artis Chambers in their upset win over the Nittany Lions; one of which could be the actual forfeiture of this game or all games played this year to this point in the season. AD Bill Martin has confirmed that Chambers can no longer suit up this season on Game Day for the Wolverines but can still practice with the team. Martin also said that the Athletic Department is on the hook for this incident and not besieged coach Carr since the student-athlete is only ineligible based on Big Ten rules, not NCAA. "I take full responsibility," Martin said. "It's not on (coach) Lloyd (Carr), it's on us."Although it's nice to hear that the AD tried to take some heat off (instead of fanning the flames) of a coach on the hot seat, is anyone else wondering when this relationship between Carr and U of M will hit rock bottom? Really, it has been a rollercoaster of emotions between looking inept against supposed less talented teams to rising up and beating an unbeaten Penn State team poised to become the big dogs in the Big Ten. If the verdict comes down harsh (although no indication has been given), it would be a crushing blow to an already beleaguered team and would be the final nail in the coffin of Carr's Wolverine coaching career.
