You are talking different eras. Roy was the best of his era. He would have been a far different net minder without a mask, no butterfly, and the horse hair pads.

Maybe, but then again he would have had a different style in a different era, just like the others did.

I respect Brodeur for all the trouble he has caused my Flyers over the years. They'd have three less Stanley Cups without him.

What criteria is this based on other than your own opinion. Hasek, Belfore, and Brodeur all deserve to be considered in this poll. That is only during Roy's era, then you have a whole slew of goalies from previous eras.

"Georges Vezina, Lorne Chabot, Charlie Gardiner, Gump Worsley, Tony Esposito, Glenn Hall, Ken Dryden or Ron Hextall...

St. Patrick Roy was better than all of them put together."

Oh yeah, he also coached Belfour and Hasek when he was the Blackhawks' goaltending coach.

TB, he was pulled after the first period when the game was 2-2. Had he stayed in, who knows what would have happened.

Seemed like the coach didn't want anymore weak goals scored against the team. No matter - it is just one game.

This is stupid. Are you so concerned that roy may not win that you don't list other choices. If you got 5 options, this is what they should be:

1) Roy

2) Brodeur

3) Dryden

4) Hasek

5) Your choice of Hextall, Tretiak, Fuhr, Belfour, etc.

My honest opinion is that it is a two person race between Brodeur and Roy. Right now it is Roy but if Brodeur plays 2 more seasons and holds every major goaltending record, you have to go with Marty.

Fuhr always makes me think of the Terry Bradshaw of hockey...worthy of being in the discussion because of wins, but never the guy...

Hasek is like the Jim Edmonds of goalies...yeah, that's great dom...

I don't think I can really put Hextall in there...heh...and eddie gulp the eagle either...

Roy is kinda a Brett Favre kinda player, whereas Brodeur is a Brady...to break it down...

I think, in the end, it'll be marty...but it'll never be a clear or clean cut pick...

I agree on all counts. Fuhr is in the picture because he played for a dynasty. Hextall can't be in the picture because of historical big game failures just like Eddie the Eagle. Hasek was great, but the second best player of his era (to Brodeur). At the end of the day I think that choosing Marty, Patrick or Kenny (Dryden) would be legitimate.

I just googled Grant Fuhr out of sheer curiousity. No question - Fuhr is by far the greatest hockey player of all-time. Second to only Dany Sabourin perhaps.

Patrick Roy is definitely better than Brodeur and Hasek. I think there's an argument for some of the other guys, though. Anyway, this poll is intended to be slightly humorous (or irritating, depending on your perspective), or I would have included someone other Patrick Roy, even though I think he's the greatest.

Gee Tyrone, on what basis do you think Fuhr is the greatest ever? Does that Make Claude Vilgrain better than Wayne Gretzky? Is Kevin Weeks the second best goalie ever?

I think there's several factors there. First, Patrick Roy has more playoff victories and Stanley Cups than Brodeur. Second, Brodeur has had better defenses than Roy had. Third, Roy beat Brodeur in their only Stanley Cup meeting. Fourth, Roy won the Stanley Cup in his rookie season, a truly amazing feat.
