Isn't a record either breakable or unbreakable? I don't think they can be 'more' unbreakable.

If I hit you with a bat, there may be places about your body that are more breakable than others, even if I applied the same force throughout the beating... would you agree? Maybe some bones, after I hit them with the bat many times - say in your cranium don't break - it would be assumed they were "unbreakable", right? What if I come back later with a sledge hammer and I keep hitting and hitting your head until the bones finally do break, they are now less unbreakable than they were before, nes pas?

We're talking records, Manny, not my bones. And I think your comment proves you're overdue for this.

Ya forgot Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak - That one will NEVER be broken...

How about Rickey Henderson's stolen bases record? With the art of the stolen base almost gone, it'll never be broken. Rickey Broke Lou Brock's record of 938 in 1991 and Henderson finished his career with 1,406. Unbreakable!

I would argue Ripken's record of 2,632 consecutive games played will never be broken; in the future, whose career is going to last long enough for them to even sniff that mark?

Van Der Meer's no hitter streak is utterly unbreakable...(note unbreakable) 1 no hitter is amazing...2 is absolutely ridiculous...3 (i.e. breaking the record) would be all but impossible

Some of the records may never be broken because if you look on the horizon of this sport there is no one capable of breaking them. 60 innings not likely. 57 games still not very likely closest in last 20 years is 44 straight. And without Nolan Ryan pitching chances of 2 straight no-hitters doesn't look good either. All these records were set at different times and under very different conditions that today don't exist anymore. But only time with tell and the next Sandy Koufax or Hank Aaron or Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle etc......

of those, the least likely is the 2 consecutive no hitters. Extremely unlikely a pitcher will ever break it (in effect, pitching 3 or more straight). I also believe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak may also be unbreakable. As close as players have come in the past, I just don't think anyone will ever hit in 57 (or even 56) consecutive games

Of the three listed there, Van Der Meer's is the hardest to break (hence, most unbreakable).
with the dominant relievers out there, I think it'll be only a matter of time before Gagne's and/or Hersheisers records fall.
