Polamalu Likely Lost For Season

Steelers Coach Bill Cowher said late Sunday night that Troy Polamalu had suffered a "significant knee injury." This is just another blow to the defending Super Bowl Champions who are all but out of this years playoff race. A source inside the Steelers front office says, "due to the team being out of the playoff picture, and the fact that Troy has already suffered a concussion this year, the team will be in no rush to get him back on the field."

There's an old story Ralph Kiner tells. During his playing days (for the perpetually awful Pirates), Kiner would go to the GM and ask for a raise. The GM looked at him and noted that "we're losing with you, we can lose without you, too!"

I just saw on ESPN that Polamalu has a sprained MCL and is expected to miss 2 games. Bad news for the season of the reeling Steelers, but much bigger and better news that the injury is not as serious as initially expected.

I know if it were up to Polamalu, he would be on the field. Troy played the first four weeks of the season without the use of his left arm, more or less. He has started every game since the Steelers drafted him a few years ago. There is no doubt in my mind that Polamalu is the best safety, if not defensive player, in the NFL.
