Player or the uniform?

by TehLoki & Simms1156

TehLoki and Simms1156 bring this article to you together. Yesterday, we were arguing a frequent debate of ours, whether you cheer for the players or the uniform. This is an age old question, but our version is with a twist. Assume next year, you're favorite team is moving and becoming the Alaska Glaciers. Similar to the Browns/Ravens situation. 5 years later, your team comes back to your hometown, but the Glaciers remain a team with all your favorite players from your old team (Excluding losses via free agency and retirements). Whom do you cheer for?

TehLoki: Originally I said I would cheer for the Glaciers, but then Simms brought up a valid point, could I bring myself to cheer against the Eagles? No, I couldn't. I grew up with the Eagles, their history, their players, and their traditions. The memories of Reggie White taking down Troy Aikman and Phil Simms in that Kelly green uniform. The old Gang Green Defense. After pondering long and hard, for almost a week, I came to the conclusion that I'd cheer for the uniform over the players.

Simms1156: I am not as decided on this issue as TehLoki. My first thought was that no, I could not cheer against the Giants even if they were gone for five years, then another question arose. I assume that for those five years I would live and die by weather or not the Glaciers won. (Maybe not the first year as much because I would still be too distraught over the loss over the Giants to be completely into the Glaciers first season.) The hard part is could I then abandon the Glaciers after my years of allegiance to return to a team of all expansion players that I have very little familiarity with? I am still not decided on what team I would cheer for because I cant imagine cheering against the Giants or the Glaciers (I know they are fictional but I'm assuming that I have been cheering for the Glaciers with all of my heart for the last 5 years. I am leaning towards the Giants because I think that every time I cheer against them I am cheering against Phil Simms, Lawrence Taylor, and all of the great players (and not so great players) that I have cheered for in the past.

So who would you choose? We are very interested in hearing especially if you are a fan who went through the Browns and then cheered for the Ravens. Did you go back to the Browns or are you still cheering for the Ravens.

p.s. We know that the example of the Alaska Glaciers is geographically ridiculous but it was the first team name suggestion we came up with and it stuck.

I cheer for my team. I am truly lucky because, as long as there's revenue sharing, the Packers will not leave Green Bay.

I will continue to cheer for the players that leave in free agency. At least the players I like that got a raise to leave when I didn't think they were worth the money. Players like Ahman Green. I still have his signed jersey hanging in my house.

Mike McKenzie and Darren Sharper can kiss my azz.
