The Steelers traveled to Arizona's University of Phoenix Stadium looking for a 4-0 start. But Arizona has different plans. Two of the Cards coaches coached for the Steelers last year, including Arizona's new head coach, Ken Whisenhunt. "The Whiz" was trying to lead Arizona to their second win of the season, and get back to .500.
The game started out in the Steelers favor, as they drove down the field in 8 plays for a total of 69 yards, in 4:33. Which ended on a 43-yard pass from Ben Roethlisberger to speedy wideout Santonio Holmes, just before the first quarter ended. So, at the end of the first quarter, it was 7-0 in favor of Pittsburgh, but everything went downhill for Pittsburgh after that. In the second, and third quarters Pittsburgh had five drives, all of which ended in either a punt, or INT. And then in the fourth quarter, Pittsburgh had to punt on their first two possessions, and then scored a TD to spark a potential comeback. But, after the Steelers defense stops Arizona from scoring, Roethlisberger threw yet another INT to end the game.
Arizona needed to use two QB's in order to win, but, HEY! Whatever works. Arizona may have had a slow start (punt, punt, punt, fumble, missed FG on first five drives). But, football has 60 minutes, not 30. So, despite their terrible start (zero points in first half), plus the fact that they had to use two QB's, after benching Leinart in the 2nd qtr, Arizona was able to hold off the Steelers, unfortunately. It was a very good game all the way to the final seconds of the game, and the Steelers nearly came back, but fell JUST short. This was a big win for Arizona, and it will give them alot of confidence for their later games, and it was well-deserved, they held the Steelers to just 7 points in the first half. Perhaps Arizona should always use 2 QB's.
