Tony Armas Jr.(0-1) started for the Pirates for the first time in almost two weeks. His rust would show. Randy Wolf(2-1) went to the mound for Los Angeles.
Unlike their two games in Milwaukee, the Pirates struck first. Xavier Nady drove in Jack Wilson with a single to left.
The Dodgers did their own scoring in the bottom of the inning. With Rafael Furcal and Juan Pierre on base, Nomar Garciaparra lined a single in front of RF Eldred to score both runners.
In the bottom of the third, the Dodgers bats knocked Armas out of the game. With one out, Pierre singled, then stole second base. Nomar drew a walk, before Jeff Kent dropped an RBI single in front of Jason Bay. Luis Gonzalez brought in one more run with a single to center. Armas hit Russ Martin with a pitch, followed by a sac fly to the warning track off of the bat of Andre Ethier. The Dodgers weren't done yet. Wilson Betemit singled in a run and pitcher Randy Wolf added some run support by adding two more runs to the lead with a linedrive double down the rightfield line. The Dodgers left the inning up 8-1.
The Dodgers tacked on another run in the fifth with an Ethier home run down the rightfield line. Betemit almost went back-to-back with Ethier but Brad Eldred caught the ball at the wall.
Game Notes:
- Dodgers improved to 12-5, the best record in the majors.
- Randy Wolf struck out ten, a career high.
- Nady drove in his 11th RBI.
