Phillies sweep D-Backs, set sight on Nats, Mets

The Philadelphia Phillies (32-27) completed a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks (34-25) today behind suprisingly solid pitching of occasionaly starter Ryan Madson (W, 6-3). The Phils starting pitching was on display all week, as they got solid outings from Cory Lidle, young phenom Cole Hamels and Ryan Madson. The Fightin' Phils next stop is Washington. In their last series, the Phillies took two out of three, but that was in Philadelphia. The Phils will then welcome the New York Mets, in what should be a battle for the division lead.

My Phils are certainly a streaky team. I'm pleased with the progress of the pitching staff; Having Hamels and Madson winning will build up their confidence and will help when we make a playoff run.

THe young guys are starting to show up. But I think the most important part of this team is Brett Myers. The guy doesn't have a bad start (Knock on wood) and has been playing like an ace. You give me Myers, and the way Hamels and Madson just played and I'll take it. Not to mention Lidle has had a few solid outings. He has the ability to win 10 games and eat a ton of innings.

The team is still managed by Cholly. And what is the Phils record in 1-run games. When the heat comes on, this team still folds.
