Carlos Beltran homered in the bottom of the 16th inning to give the Mets a 9-8 victory over the Phillies on Tuesday night. David Wright, Cliff Floyd and Jose Reyes also homered for the Mets, who upped their lead over the Phillies to four games. Reyes' blast was a two-run shot off Ryan Franklin that tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Darren Oliver, who went four scoreless, was the winner. Ryan Madson was handed the loss after finally giving up a run in his eighth inning of work.

Poor Ryan Madson. He starts the day thinking he's going to pitch tomorrow, as Cole Hamels is hurt. Turns out, he's right -- he does get to pitch tomorrow, as in just after midnight. He's stellar, going 7 IP (plus a batter) and giving up one run. But he loses his chance to start *and* gets tagged for a loss.
