Philly Snaps Nasty Twelve Game Losing Streak
Iguodala, Dalembert Take Reins Left By Iverson
BOSTON, December 22 - With Allen Iverson gone, poised to take his first shot as a member of the Denver Nuggets, Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert had to decide to make the Philadelphia 76ers their own.
An ailing Boston Celtics team came made-to-order for the duo, as Philly broke a 12 game losing streak and defeated the Celtics 98-83 at Bostons TD Banknorth arena Friday night. Iguodala, who entered the game averaging 19.3 points per game over his last seven, paced all scorers with a career high 31 points, and Dalembert turned in a very solid performance, with 14 points of his own, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Philadelphia also got solid second half play from Kyle Korver who was 2 for 4 from three point land, and ended up with 14 points. Korver sank consecutive three point and 2 point field goals early in the fourth quarter to help Philadelphia pull away from a Boston surge. After going 0 for 6 in a dreadful first half, Sixers’ guard Willy Green went 5 for 8 in the second half, ending up with 11 points.
Boston, without injured team scoring leaders Paul Pierce and Wally Sczcerbiak, closed the gap on the Sixers, and even managed a two – point lead in the first half, but struggled to keep pace after having to go so deep into its bench. Gerald Green and Al Jefferson each had 20 points for Boston in a losing effort.
The Sixers led most of the way, and turned the ball over only nine times compared to Boston’s 15. The Sixers also shot nearly 54% from the field, compared to Boston, who struggled to keep their chin above 40%.
News and Notes. . . Philadelphia returns home to face the New York Knicks before taking an extended road trip. . . . Boston gets ready to take their decimated team on the road on a west coast string, which will be a difficult challege for the Celtics, who don’t expect Pierce back for more than a month, due to a stress fracture in his foot.
