Phil Rizzuto Passes Away

Phil Rizzuto, "The Scooter", passed away is his sleep on August 13, 2007. Phil played his entire career from 1941 to 1956 with the New York Yankees winning the AL MVP in 1950. Over the course of his 13 year career, Rizzuto would help the Yankees win 10 AL pennants and 7 World Series. Phil would join the Yankees broadcasting team beginning in 1957 and called Yankee games on the radio and television for over 40 years. His most popular catchphrase became, "Holy cow!" In 1994, the Veterans Committee elected "The Scooter" into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Rizzuto's declining health had been a matter of concern for years. In 2005 he revealed he had a surgery that removed most of his stomach and many became concerned when he missed Old Timers Day at Yankee Stadium in 2006. Later in 2006, the New York Post revealed that Rizzuto was in a private rehab facility attempting to overcome various ailments. He would eventually be admitted to a nursing home where he lived out the last few months of his life. At the time of his death, Rizzuto was the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame.
