Born on June 8, 1930 in Chepachet, Rhode Island, Phil Paine (Phillips Steere Paine) played for the Boston Braves, Milwaukee Braves and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 6 year career. Paine broke into the bigs on July 14, 1951 with the Boston Braves, and put up a 3.56 ERA in 73.1 innings pitched in 1958, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Phil Paine's best season was 1958, when he posted a 3.56 ERA.
