Born on October 7, 1939 in Gilbert, Arizona, Phil Ortega (Filomeno Coronada Ortega) played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Senators and California Angels over the course of his 10 year career. Ortega broke into the bigs on September 10, 1960 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and put up a 6.88 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched in 1962, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Phil Ortega's best season was 1967, when he posted a 3.03 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 122 batters.
