Phil Murphy (Philip John Murphy) was born on September 26, 1957 in New London, Connecticut. After going to high school at Xavier (Middletown, CT), Murphy attended South Carolina State University. Murphy made his professional debut in the NFL in 1980 with the Los Angeles Rams. He played for the Los Angeles Rams for his entire 2 year career.

Most people believe that 1981 was Phil Murphy's best year.
