Phil King (Philip Edgar King) was born on June 22, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee. After going to high school at Dyersburg (TN), King attended Vanderbilt Universtiy. King made his professional debut in the NFL in 1958 with the New York Giants. He played for the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that 1963 was Phil King's best year, as he ran for 613 yards and caught 5 TD passes.
