Yes, he's probably one of, if not the, greatest baseball writer ever. Much luck to Gammons and his family and hope for a speedy recovery.

He's one of those guys that never was able to bridge between reporting an analysis, but he revolutionized reporting with his notebook-style columns. Truly a great one.

My Heart and my prayers go out to Peter. For as much as I complained about him being a homer, he was a great reporter, and DNL is right he changed the way we cover sports today. I hope to ee him at a ballpark again soon.

Hope he pulls through, it would be a shame and a big void in the sports world without him.

As of about 10:00, according to ESPN, "Peter Gammons is out of surgery and resting in intensive care after undergoing an operation to treat an aneurysm in his brain..." Sounds like he's okay from the way they say "resting" although they could be trying to play it down... hopefully he'll make a full recovery.

Just thought this would be of some interest, his hall of fame induction speech

Let's hope Peter Gammons is OK. Any of us who write about baseball - even casually, on this site or others - owes Mr. Gammons a great debt, as does all of baseball. There will be an empty seat at Fenway Park tonight, where he's been a life-long season-ticket holder, but regardless of what happens, there will never be an empty seat in our hearts. There aren't many people I'd pray for outside my immediate family, but Peter Gammons is one of them.
