Pete Runnels (James Edward Runnels) was born on January 28, 1928 in Lufkin, Texas. He made his Major League debut on July 1, 1951 for the Washington Senators. In 1951, his rookie year, he hit .278 with 0 home runs and 25 RBI. Runnels played for the Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Houston Colt .45s over the course of his 14 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Pete Runnels's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1962, when he hit for a .326 average and knocked in 60 runs. However, others believe that it was 1959, when he hit for a .314 average and knocked in 57 runs.
