Born on October 25, 1939 in Staten Island, New York, Pete Mikkelsen (Peter James Mikkelsen) played for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers over the course of his 9 year career. Mikkelsen broke into the bigs on April 17, 1964 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.56 ERA in 86 innings pitched in 1964, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Pete Mikkelsen's best season was 1966, when he posted a 3.07 ERA, notched 14 saves and struck out 76 batters.
