Pete Layden (John Peter Layden, Jr.) was born on December 30, 1919 in Dallas, Texas. After going to high school at Adamson (Dallas, TX), Layden attended the University of Texas. Layden made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1948 with the New York Yankees. He played in the AAFC for 2 years, playing for the New York Yankees the entire time. Layden also played in the NFL for 1 year, playing for the New York Yanks the entire time.

Most people believe that 1948 was Pete Layden's best year, as he ran for 576 yards and picked off 3 passes.
