Born on Unknown in St. Louis, Missouri, Pete Dowling (Henry Peter Dowling) played for the Louisville Colonels, Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Blues over the course of his 4 year career. Dowling broke into the bigs on July 17, 1897 with the Louisville Colonels, and put up a 4.16 ERA in 285.2 innings pitched in 1898, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Pete Dowling's best season was 1899, when he posted a 3.11 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 88 batters.
